The Cubs are 7-5 heading into the district opener, having faced 11 playoff teams in their 12 pre-district games.

Brenham features a veteran team, with 11 members of last year’s playoff team returning, including starting pitchers Chandler Jozwiak (2-1, 0.70 era in non-district) and Eric Wellmann (2-0, 1.08 era).

The Cubs are looking for improved offensive production in 2017.  Last year the team scored just 96 runs in 30 games, with a team batting average of .257.  So far in 2017, the Cubs have scored 72 runs in 13 games, and are batting .306.

Returning to the Cubs’ lineup are Jozwiak, Dane Acker, Zach Marshall, Davion Lockett, Darvis Watson, Hunter Avila and Tristan Schwartz.

The 2017 Cubs are making a bid for their 34th consecutive trip to the playoffs—their 59th in the past 65 years.

The Cubs are also looking to reach a major milestone in 2017—their 1500th win in school history.  With the team’s seven wins in 2017, their win total since 1950 stands at 1495.

Tonight’s game with Magnolia West is set for 7:00 at Firemen’s Park.  Thursday night, the Cubs travel to Waller to face the Bulldogs.

Tonight’s game can be heard beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40 with Ed Pothul and Tommy Lange, on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
