The new building will feature concessions, storage space and restrooms. The park association earlier upgraded the park’s baseball field.

Deanville Memorial Park Association President Brad Balcar says the multipurpose building will mean new opportunities for the park and will allow for economic and civic growth in the Deanville community. Officials say it is currently difficult for park-goers to stay for extended periods of time due to the lack of on-site bathroom facilities. The lack of storage space also is a limiting factor.

The new amenities will be in place by spring 2017, making it more convenient for baseball games and practices to take place at the field and allowing more area youths to participate without having to travel to other communities.

The concession stand will provide revenue to help maintain the park, which provides a place where adults and youths can participate in sports, have picnics and play.

The Gerdes, Jurica and Beran families donated the 4.77-acre tract of parkland to the Deanville Memorial Park Association, which cares for and provides leadership for the park.

The community grant is awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.
