GAS LEAK NEAR SOMERVILLE FORCES MANDATORY EVACUATIONS

  

 

A mandatory evacuation remainsin effect just south of Snook, where Burleson County officials are working a gas leak.

The leak is located in the area of FM 1361 and CR 236, south of Snook and northwest of Clay, near FM 2155.

Trooper Jimmy Morgan of the Department of Public Safety gives us a recap of the gas leak:

 

 

Burleson County authorities say the Comstock Oil and Gas well is leaking approximately 2700 cu. feet of gas per hour.

Mandatory evacuations are taking place for about 30 homes around the area of the leak.  Evacuees are advised to go to the Snook SPJST Hall.

Power has been cut to about 75 area homes as a precaution.

Several roads have been closed, including: FM 2155 at County Road 272, FM 1361 at County Road 436, FM 50 at County Road 276 and FM 50 at County Road 442.

A company from The Woodlands is working to cap the well.  A College Station hazmat crew is also at the scene.

No injuries have been reported.
