LOCALS SCHOOLS RECEIVE OIL & GAS TAX REVENUE

Washington County and its two school districts split nearly $2-million in tax revenue from oil and natural gas activity.

According to the Texas Oil & Gas Association the Brenham and Burton school districts each received $700,000, while the county received $400,000 in property taxes from oil and natural gas production, pipelines and gas utilities.

TXOGA president Todd Staples says, “The sustained recovery of the Texas oil and natural gas industry is benefitting the state and local economies, providing the equivalent of $30 million a day for schools, universities, roads and first responders.”

In fiscal 2017, Texas school districts received $1.1 billion in property taxes. Counties received $336 million in oil and natural gas mineral property taxes.

  1. Wiki, Yes. Pose that question to our city manager to get confirmation. An open mind is an enlightened mind.

  2. It will cost more than 1.1 million dollars to provide an alternative water supply for ALL our schools when the waters of Lake Somerville are contaminated by fracking chemicals rendering our only water supply useless. The economic damage to the entire area would be in the billions. Doesn’t seem like much money when this is considered.
