CITY COUNCIL HIRES ARCHITECTURAL FIRM FOR ANIMAL SHELTER

  

The Brenham City Council hired Edwards and Associates as the architectural firm to design the new Brenham Pet Adoption and Animal Care Facility that will soon be built near the Brenham Police Station.

Police Chief Rex Phelps told the Brenham City Council at today’s (Thursday’s) meeting that the city is well aware of the work of Richard Edwards and his architectural firm.  Phelps believes the firm was the best choice. 

City Council member Mary Barnes Tilley asked Edwards about the timeline for building the new animal shelter.  Edwards hopes to begin construction in five to six months.

Under the new comprehensive exchange of services the city will have total control and funding for the animal shelter. Edwards would be paid  about 6 percent of the project, or about $86,000.

  City Manager Terry Roberts said the facility would cost between $1 and $2 million and they would depend on city funding and private donations.  Police Chief Phelps said they have already received a half a million donation and there are other large donations coming in.  Roberts added that these are ‘true donations’ not just pledges.

The old city animal shelter was long ago determined to be no longer usable.
