F-111 RESTORATION PROJECT MOVING QUICKLY

Work on the restoration of an F-111 fighter jet is coming along faster than expected.

The aircraft, stationed at Brenham Municipal Airport, has been a project for the Washington County Veteran's Association for nearly a year.  Workers were at the airport today (Wednesday) mounting one of the wings onto the plane.

Project manager and airport trustee Don Holley says work on the plane should be completed in mid-September, when the plane will be moved to Henderson Park.

Holley says all basic painting on the plane has been completed, and the next steps involve restoring and attaching the tail and second wing, along with painting decals.

Brenham VFW Commander Ben Seeker says over 2000 hours of labor and volunteer work have been invested in the restoration project so far.  Seeker said costs have exceeded what was initially expected for the project, so donations would be appreciated.

For more information, or to donate, call Seeker at 979-830-8776, or Holley at 979-830-3980.
