UPDATE – WALLER CO. DEPUTY DIES IN FLOOD WATERS

“On Wednesday October 31, 2018 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Waller County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Loren Vasquez was dispatched to a high priority water rescue call. She was northbound on FM 362 near Hoover Road when her patrol unit became airborne after driving into the water covered roadway. Her patrol unit landed upside down in a water filled ditch. Responding deputies were unable to gain access to Deputy Vasquez inside of her vehicle. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress hospital by ambulance. The exact cause of her death is pending the outcome of a report by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Deputy Loren Vasquez # 543 was 23 years old and resided in Waller County with her parents and younger brother. Loren graduated from Royal High School and was also an active member of Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department. Deputy Vasquez began her law enforcement career with the Waller County Sheriff’s Office on May 21, 2018. She had just completed her 20 week Field Training Program and had been on patrol as a single deputy unit for only three nights at the time of her death.

A Waller County Sheriff's deputy has been killed in a crash Wednesday night during the massive storms that moved through the area.
Authorities say the deputy, whose name has not been release, was out working around FM 362 and Hoover Lane, southwest of Hockley, when her patrol car went off the road and into floodwaters.
Authorities say the water was deep enough that other deputies and officers struggled to pull her from the water.
Deputies saluted her body as she was loaded into the ambulance and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Cypress, where she died.
A procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted the body from the hospital into Houston to the medical examiner's office.
Waller County Sheriff R. Glenn Smith posted a message on
Facebook saying in part, "Words will never express what our office is going thru and we can only ask for your prayers. Due to very close family being contacted we are going to wait until early Friday to release details but I know that the blue line has heart felt tears on it for our office."
