EQUIPMENT FAILURE CLAIMS LIFE OF AUSTIN CO. COMMISSIONER
Austin County is mourning the death of Precinct 4 County Commissioner Douglas King.

King was killed Monday afternoon in a worksite accident in Sealy. He was repairing a piece of equipment with crewmembers, at the Austin County Precinct 4 Building on 416 Gebhardt Road. Around 2:30 p.m., two moving pieces suddenly closed on King.
Emergency responders were immediately called out, but King died on scene from his injuries. The accident is still under investigation, according to a release from the Austin County Judge’s Office.
King, who was 49 years old, was preparing to begin his third term as commissioner. A message from his family, which was posted on Facebook along with the release, says his passing comes just six years after the death of his wife.
A fund for King’s three children has been set up at First National Bank of Bellville, Wallis, or Waller, under the account “Doug King Family Fund”. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
