NAVASOTA POLICE MAKE ARREST FOLLOWING FIGHT, THREATS

  

Police were called upon New Year’s afternoon, after a fight broke out in Navasota.

Around 3:40 p.m., several people were drinking outside their home on Universal Street.  It was reported that 54-year-old Chaney Bennett struck 49-year-old Charles Fletcher with a glass bottle.  This caused a fight between the two.

According to police, Bennett went towards his house on Courtney Road, then came back to the house on Universal Street with a knife, making threats towards Fletcher and others present.

When officers arrived, Bennett went back inside his home.  Officers approached the residence and were able to call Bennett out, after an hour and a half.  Both Bennett and Fletcher were treated for injuries at the scene.

Bennett has been arrested, charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Terroristic Threat.  There are currently no charges against Fletcher.
