Dr. Marcelo Bussiki will take the permanent position, after serving as the Interim Vice Chancellor since September 2018.  Bussiki replaces Dr. Crystal Lee, who resigned in September after two years with Blinn.

Bussiki previously served as Blinn’s Dean of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology.  He came to Blinn in 2001 as a Music Instructor, and in 2006, he was named Chair of Blinn’s Fine Arts Division.  He was named an Academic Dean in 2014.

Under Bussiki, enrollment in the Division of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology more than tripled, and new programs like the Performing Arts Series and the Blinn-Bryan Theatre Troupe were introduced.  In addition to his roles and several committee seats at Blinn, he is also Music Director/Conductor of the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.

A native of Brazil, Bussiki studied at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro Federal University, and the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. He earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Houston in 1998.

Bussiki has been awarded knighthood in the Ordem de Merito de Mato Grosso, in recognition of his work in cultural expansion and musical education.  He has also received the title of “Oficial”, the highest honor the government can confer upon an artist in Brazil.
