Faith Mission welcomes its newest student interns to Brenham.
Faith Mission has provided field practicum work experience to college students across the state of Texas for 11 years. This year’s interns are Maya Whitehurst and Michelle Harris, each attending Prairie View A&M University.
Whitehurst and Harris are both seniors in Prairie View’s Health and Kinesiology Department, and expect to graduate in May.
Faith Mission Executive Director Randy Wells said these two want to learn more about health and human services, and have a passion for wanting to help others.
After her graduation, Whitehurst plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and become the CEO of her own non-profit organization that caters to at-risk youth. She said she chose to intern with Faith Mission because she is dedicated to helping people physically, mentally, and spiritually to be the best they can be.
Harris intends to pursue a Master’s Degree in Health Administration, at the University of Houston—Clear Lake, following her graduation. She then plans to become a CEO of a hospital in Harris County. She said her volunteer work at Focusing Families was part of her passion of giving back to the community.
As part of this practicum, Whitehurst and Harris will look to complete a 400-hour program that includes learning about population health, organizational development, and community partnerships.
Rev. Wells said Faith Mission has expanded its partnership with Prairie View A&M by expanding upon the health field, while continuing to prepare the next generation of social workers.
