DPS URGES DRIVERS TO MOVE NON-INJURY CRASHES FROM MAIN TRAFFIC LANES
The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking drivers to move non-injury crashes out of main traffic lanes.
DPS encourages motorists to move minor accidents and fender benders away from regular traffic flow. DPS states that moving these accidents to a safe location greatly reduces the chances of a secondary crash.
Texas law says if an accident occurs on a main lane, ramp, shoulder, or median, and each vehicle involved can be driven safely, drivers should move their vehicles to where the accident can be safely investigated. Suggested locations include a spot on the frontage road, or the closest suitable cross street.
DPS also says moving non-injury crashes can not only keep drivers and first responders safe, but help reduce crash-related traffic buildup.
