PAGE MICHEL REFLECTS ON HER TIME IN WASHINGTON CO. CHAMBER
It’s the end of an era for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, as today (Friday) marks Page Michel’s final day as President.
Michel announced last month that she would be stepping down from the Chamber, after serving as President since 2005. She originally joined the Chamber in 1996 as Tourism Director, serving until 2000.
Michel says she came to the decision after seeing a chance for her to use her skills and background on a statewide and national basis. She said she wanted to grow in a new direction, and search for new challenges.
Michel recalls several milestones the Chamber achieved during her time as President.
Last year, the City of Brenham cancelled a contract with the Chamber Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, taking control of tourism duties. The city also took over economic development.
Michel admits those decisions impacted the scope of her position, but they did not lead to her choice to leave the Chamber. She maintains she is very personally committed to the community, and just wanted to take advantage of a chance for professional growth.
Michel’s next position will be one with Community Matters Inc., a Texas map and magazine publishing company that has been a member of the Washington County Chamber for over ten years.
Michel foresees success for the Chamber as it moves forward, saying it has strong leadership in place. She says she leaves the Chamber knowing it will continue to work to create positive economic impact in the community.
