BRENHAM POLICE ARREST HOUSTON MAN ON SLEW OF CHARGES AFTER PURSUIT

  

A Houston man is in custody at the Washington County Jail, following a Saturday night pursuit by multiple authorities.

Saturday night, just before 11:30 p.m., Brenham Police Corporal Hunter Andras attempted a stop on a vehicle near the 700 block of US Highway 290 West.  The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Ruchy Aruilagos of Houston, fled the scene in his vehicle, and later on foot.

DPS Troopers and deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.  The driver was said to have nearly struck one the deputies while trying to avoid a spike strip.

The driver was eventually arrested and taken into custody.  Captain Lloyd Powell said no one was injured.  According to Powell, a passenger with Aruilagos was not charged, as she was attempting to stop the vehicle they were in.

Aruilagos was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against a Public Servant, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and on Foot, Wrong or Fictitious License Plate, and three active warrants.
