BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO CANVASS ELECTION RESULTS

The Burton School Board will look to canvass the results of the May 4th board election at its meeting Monday.

The board will administer oaths of office to board members Demetrius Colvin, Jeff Harmel, and Ande Bostain, the winners of the election.

Incumbents Jeff Harmel and Demetrius Colvin received 375 and 323 votes, compared to challengers Sue Pinkerton and Jon Johnson’s 171 and 170 votes.

Meanwhile, incumbent Ande Bostain defeated challenger John Parffrey in a special election to fill the unexpired term of Linda Hasten, who resigned after leaving the school district.  Bostain received 363 votes to Parffrey’s 154.

A total of 533 voters participated in the Burton ISD election, including early voting and Election Day. Results for the election came in a little over four hours past the time polls closed at 7 p.m.

Also in session, the board will possibly reorganize. Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said it will be up to the board to determine if any of its members are shifted into new roles, or if the officers will remain the same.  Currently, Colvin and Harmel are the sitting board president and vice president, respectively.

The board will also hear a report from the superintendent, who will give preliminary budget projections. It will also receive reports from the athletic director and junior high and high school principals.

Board members will then adjourn into executive session to discuss personnel and district safety and security.

The board will meet Monday afternoon at 6:30 p.m., in the Administration Office on 701 North Railroad Street.
