BURLESON CO. JUDGE RESIGNED AMID ‘INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT’ ACCUSATIONS

Judge Mike Sutherland

The resignation last week of former Burleson County Judge Mike Sutherland reportedly came amidst accusations of inappropriate conduct.

Sutherland agreed to resign from his post, as part of an agreement with the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

The commission reportedly received two complaints against Sutherland alleging that he "sexually harassed a woman and/or engaged in a sexual relationship with a woman employed by Burleson County."

In exchange for Sutherland stepping down, the agreement states the commission will not seek disciplinary action.  It also states that Sutherland is prohibited from any judicial service in Texas.

The voluntary agreement did not detail the allegations but said, "no Findings of Fact or Conclusions of Law have been made." Sutherland continues to deny any wrongdoing.  DPS confirms there is no criminal investigation into the matter.

Applications are being accepted for Sutherland’s successor through noon today (Tuesday). The county hopes to have someone appointed by the end of the week.
