WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE ARCHIVE PLANS

Washington County Commissioners approved the district and county clerks’ 2020 archive plans during a brief meeting this (Tuesday) morning.

Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel showcases county court-approved payments from 1857, a few of the county's preserved historical records.

The county is required annually to file the plans, which collect fees when various documents are filed with the county. No one from the public spoke during the hearings for either of the plans.

District Clerk Tammy Brauner said the county is allowed to charge a $10 archive fee each time there is a filing in her office, or the office of County Clerk Beth Rothermel. She said the fee was $5 years ago, but legislation will allow the fee to stay at $10 moving forward.

Brauner said this money is set aside for the preservation and digitization of historical documents, which date back to the early 1800’s. She said the county is trying to “gradually get as much information out there for easy access for our public”.

Commissioner Kirk Hanath said making the digital transition for these documents is costly, but it is “important for the future of our community to have these records preserved”.

Commissioners also:

  • Approved the purchase of a 2020 budgeted chassis and installation of liquid springs installed by Manning Equipment, for Washington County EMS.  EMS Director Kevin Deramus said the county has been trying to order this chassis since this last December.
  • Approved an easement contract between the county and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative for the Washington County Road and Bridge Facility under construction.
