BRENHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING VANDALISM AT AMERICAN LEGION MEMORIAL PLAZA
Brenham police are looking into an incident of vandalism at the American Legion Hall.
Authorities have discovered damage to several “tiers”, which hold bricks engraved with names of local veterans.
Two of the eight tiers surrounding the memorial plaza—facing Park Street—have had the trim holding the bricks in place removed. At this point, none of the bricks with engraving have been damaged or removed.
Washington County Veterans Association President Ben Seeker said he was alerted of the damage by the City of Brenham Monday afternoon. He believes the incident occurred over the weekend.
Seeker said a report has been filed with police. Damage at the site is estimated to be at least $1,500. It has not been determined how the pieces of trim were removed; however, Seeker said authorities did find a metal can opener at the scene.
Seeker urges anyone with information on the incident to call police.

I think the perpetrators should be identified, which they probably will, and likely are minors, a product of an area local school system ( I would say education system, but that might be problematical). As minors, (not to be confused with adults) I am not advocating they be publicly called out, but I believe they should REQUIRED, among other things, to attend at least the next Veterans Day gathering on Nov 11 and maybe several others like next Memorial Day next year – -until they get an understanding of what this Memorial and the people are about.
I will be just fine with handing over the vandals, when identified, to several of the Vets I know to give them a little “lesson”. No questions asked…. No sense spending county money for jail time.
Those responsible need to be found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. If it wernt for the veterans they wouldn’t have the freedom to have this time on their hands. They are proably some hand hand out accepting lowlifes with nothing better to do than these disgraceful acts. They need a three hot and a cot handout for a few months to put things in perspective .
How low can you go? This is what happens when our country is in such termoil. When adults can’t come together and only find time to argue and fight over stupid stuff, children have no direction and destroy something very sacred. We need to pray for our country, our leaders and most if all our children.
