SUSPECT IN DEPUTY’S SHOOTING TO GO TO TRIAL JUNE 2020

The man accused of shooting and wounding Fayette Co. Sheriff’s Deputy C.J. Lehmann made a court appearance earlier this week.

50-year old Shazizz Mateen was in Fayette County Court, Wenesday, for a pre-trial hearing.  At the hearing Mateen’s upcoming trial was pushed back to June 8th of next year.  It had been slated to open December 2nd.

Special Prosecutor Bill Tuner of the State’s Attorney General’s Office filed several motions.  Judge Jeff Steinhauser granted the motion by Turner, requesting any plans for an Insanity Defense be announced 60 days before trial.

Another hearing will be held January 22nd.  Pre-trial has been scheduled for April 29.

Mateen faces six counts of Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant.
