PLANTERSVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR DRUG DELIVERY, UNLAWFUL FIREARM POSSESSION

A Grimes County man accused of selling narcotics from his home has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Leroy Ward
(Grimes Co. Jail)

Leroy Ward of Plantersville pled guilty Monday to two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  He was sentenced to 25 years as part of the plea agreement.

Ward was arrested in April 2019 after authorities executed a search warrant at his home in Plantersville.  Law enforcement officials with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Navasota Police Department, Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted surveillance on Ward’s residence for over a year.

Through surveillance, investigators were able to document that Ward was selling narcotics, including cocaine and methamphetamines, from the home.  During the search of his home, narcotics and guns were recovered as evidence, and Ward, who was on parole at the time, was arrested on scene.

Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender said the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation “put significant time and manpower into building this case”.  She said she hopes this sentence sends a message that drug dealing and narcotics trafficking “will not be tolerated in Grimes County”.
