LOCAL LITTLE LEAGUE ‘HOPEFUL’ FOR GAMES IN 2020
Officials with Washington County Little League are still hopeful they can get some games in for the 2020 season.
According to Little League President John Mabie, the local board is holding conversations about contingency plans in case they aren’t able to get the games in due to the coronavirus.
Mabie says according to statements Monday by Governor Greg Abbott, the earliest they could possibly resume activities is May 18, but even that date isn’t set in stone.
Until the league gets cleared to have activities with at least 30-35 people, it won’t be possible to have Little League games, and there has not been any guidance about when that phase of reopening might occur.
Mabie adds that local officials are still waiting to hear from Little League International how this will impact the all-star tournaments.
Mabie says Little League officials did send out an update directing local little leagues to follow the state and locally-mandated guidelines, so they will not be extending the May 11 date that they had set. “I am anticipating they will give us an update about their plans for the all-star tournaments next week.”
