WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS REOPENS TO LIMITED CAPACITY

The Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site Complex reopened Friday to the public, albeit in limited fashion.

The site, now managed by the Texas Historical Commission, opened its grounds and facilities up to 25 percent occupancy Friday, and will begin its temporary schedule on Monday until further notice.

Site grounds and facilities will be open to visitors Wednesdays through Sundays, while only site grounds will be available on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Retail and site programming will remain suspended.

In accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order issued Monday, access will be restricted to 65 vehicles at a time.  The Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Plantation will allow 50 visitors at a time, while the Visitor Center will allow 25 visitors, and Independence Hall will only allow ten visitors.

When occupancy is reached, the front gate of the site will be closed to guests until additional space is available.  Guests are encouraged to call ahead or arrive early to ensure they are admitted.

Visitors to the site are asked to limit group visits to no more than five-person groups who share the same household.  They are also asked to maintain social distancing of at least six feet from anyone who is not part of their household, and to consider wearing face coverings as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
