MASKS NOW REQUIRED AT BUSINESSES IN LEE CO., GIDDINGS, LEXINGTON

Businesses across Lee County are now required to have their employees and customers wear face masks, following new orders from Lee County officials.

Monday, Lee County Judge Paul Fischer, Giddings Mayor John Dowell, and Lexington Mayor Allen Retzlaff issued a joint order effective Tuesday, mandating that business and commercial entities require employees, vendors, service personnel, customers, volunteers, or visitors to wear face coverings while on their premises.  The requirement includes drive-thru and curbside services.

The order also states that people who refuse or fail to comply with the order shall be denied entrance into the businesses or commercial entities.

According to the order, face coverings are not required to be worn when a person is alone, in a separate room or single space, and is not in an indoor common area; when a physical barrier functionally designed to prevent the spread of germs separates the individual from others; when doing so poses a greater mental or physical health, safety or security risk to the person; when pumping gas or operating outdoor equipment; and when consuming food or drink.

Violation of the order is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.

  1. Is it sufficient to cover mouth and nose with shirt? It does avoid droplets from getting into air?
