The grant funding came from Phase III of the community relief fund, which received contributions from 421 donors.

Burton Bridge Ministry Executive Director Susie Tommaney said this grant has been “a blessing for Washington County”, saying funds were used to “lift up families who had fallen through the safety net”.

In total, 51 households in Burton and Brenham received assistance with their utilities, with another 13 households receiving rent assistance.  Another 234 individuals benefitted from food and feeding programs, including the ministry’s Friday meal service, which delivers hot meals to homebound individuals.  According to Burton Bridge Ministry Board Chair Madeline Johnson, volunteers package and deliver meals to 24 homes in the greater Burton area every Friday.

Burton area senior citizens and those who are vulnerable to the virus can reserve a meal by calling 979-337-3370 no later than the Tuesday before the Friday delivery service.  Active senior citizens are also invited to drive through for meal service.  A $4 donation is requested to help with the costs of the program.
