SUNDAY EVENING STORM DESTROYS HOMES, KNOCKS DOWN TREES NEAR WASHINGTON-AUSTIN CO. LINE

Several homes and barns near the Washington-Austin County line suffered severe storm damage Sunday evening.

According to a release from the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, straight-line winds and a possible small tornado touched down in the areas of Pleasant Hill School Road, All Jersey Road, New Wehdem Road, and Randle Hill Road.  According to the fire department, two homes were completely destroyed in the storm.

Salem firefighters secured power and conducted a search of one house that had collapsed, and another that had its roof ripped off.  They also secured power to two barns that had severe damage and had partially collapsed.

No injuries were reported, as the houses were unoccupied at the time of the storm.

Firefighters assisted the Washington County Road and Bridge Department with clearing approximately 15 downed trees from the roads.  Also assisting were DPS and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The area was cleared and all units were back in service by 9 p.m.
