RECORD NUMBER OF TICKETS SOLD AT BRENHAM FIREMAN’S FIESTA FISH FRY

While the 51st Annual Fireman’s Fiesta may have taken on a different look this year due to COVID-19, the community’s support of the Brenham Fire Department still showed in full.

The fire department sold over 1,500 presale tickets for the drive-thru fish fry, held Saturday at the Fireman’s Training Center.  According to event organizers, the number of tickets sold is a record for the fire department’s fish fry, which is normally held in the spring.

The Fireman’s Fiesta is typically held as a dine-in steak and sausage dinner with a drawing and auction, but restrictions on gatherings forced a change to a drive-thru format with no drawing or auction.

The total amount of money raised at the event is still being calculated, but Brenham Fire Department President Billy Ruemke expects the proceeds will go a long way toward making some much needed repairs at the Fireman’s Training Center, which has served as an event venue and emergency shelter since it was built in 1984.

Ruemke thanked the community for coming out and showing its support, all of the sponsors for Saturday’s event, and the personnel who worked at the Fireman’s Training Center to keep the event running smoothly.
