BRENHAM’S KRUSE VILLAGE NOW COVID-19 FREE

Brenham’s Kruse Village retirement center reported today that they are currently free of any Covid-19 patients.  30 residents earlier tested positive for the virus, and 22 of those are recovered now.  22 Kruse Village staff members previously tested positive are now virus free and have returned to work.  Kruse Village Executive Director Coy Fontenot said “We sincerely miss the 8 residents who have sadly passed away during this pandemic, and their loved ones have remained in our thoughts and prayers.”

To celebrate being Covid-19 free, Kruse Village has planned a socially distant ice-cream social this week with Blue Bell Ice Cream.  Fontenot said they would like to thank Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke, and their Medical Director, Dr. Gregg Workman in reaching this accomplishment.  He added that as they move forward, Kruse Village will continue to follow all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as state and local health departments.

Full Press Release:

At Kruse Village, our top priority has always been to provide high-quality care and services to seniors. While the Coronavirus pandemic has been challenging for all senior communities— because we care for those among the most-at risk for severe COVID-19 symptoms— our staff has remained dedicated to serving our residents and their families with the best in person-centered care.

“Since our first case of COVID-19 on June 4, we have worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of the entire Kruse Village family. Today, I am happy to share that our hard work has paid-off. Of the 30 residents who previously tested positive for COVID-19, 22 have recovered. All 22 Kruse Village staff members who tested positive for the virus have now recovered and are back, doing what they love – caring for our residents,” said Executive Director Coy Fontenot. “We sincerely miss the 8 residents who have sadly passed away during this pandemic, and their loved ones have remained in our thoughts and prayers.”

Fontenot added, “While we realize this battle is not over and we must stay vigilant in preventing the virus from reentering our community, we are looking forward to celebrating how far we’ve come. With help from Brenham’s own Blue Bell Creameries, we’re planning an ice cream social for our residents and staff this week—socially distant, of course.”

“We have heard the term ‘health care hero’ in the media since the beginning of this pandemic, yet it doesn’t even begin to adequately describe the dedication and compassion of our staff. Throughout this difficult time, our staff has selflessly prioritized the health and happiness of our residents, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

Kruse Village would also like to thank our residents and their families for their support and cooperation, Washington County Emergency Management Services, including Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke, and our Medical Director, Dr. Gregg Workman. Ruemke and Workman’s ongoing collaborations have been key in securing the health of Kruse Village residents and staff. In addition, the support and collaboration received from the Brenham community is immensely appreciated.

As we move forward, Kruse Village will continue to follow all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as state and local health departments.

While Kruse Village strives for transparency in everything we do, please know we are bound by federal guidelines under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as employment policies, which protect the privacy of our residents and team members.
