WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO MULL CONTRACT FOR HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX MANAGEMENT PLATFORM

Washington County Commissioners will consider implementing a platform designed to improve management of local Hotel Occupancy Taxes (HOT) at their meeting Tuesday.

Commissioners will discuss entering into a joint contract with the City of Brenham for HOT administration and compliance services provided by LODGINGRevs.  The software would keep a database of the roughly 200 short-term rentals in the county, while making sure they are permitted, in compliance, and actively making HOT payments.

The contract being considered by commissioners would carry a one-year term that would be renewed annually.  If approved by commissioners, the county will have to pay a one-time implementation cost of $8,800, which would also be required of the city upon the Brenham City Council’s approval.

By entering into a joint contract, the city and the county will each pay $6,000 annually, versus a $10,000 annual cost for the two if they pursued the contract separately.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the court will consider approving the purchase of a Weld Together Building Package from Brenham Iron Works for the All Weather Building project at the Engineering and Development Services (EDS) Facility on Highway 36 North.  Commissioners will also act upon naming Washington County Facilities Manager Bobby Branham as the general contractor for the project.

According to County Judge John Durrenberger, the project is for the building of equipment sheds at the EDS Facility.  The cost for the materials is $37,590.

Commissioners will also consider:

  • Approval of the county engineer to accept a donation from GeoSouthern Energy Corporation for road improvements for the Old Mill Creek Road project in Precinct Four.
  • The purchase of materials and labor for City of Brenham fiber to the Washington County Health Clinic, along with additional annual maintenance fees for the health clinic fiber. The two items were tabled at the court’s previous meeting.
  • Granting the county auditor the authority to conduct an audit of the Fiscal Year 2020 Chapter 59 Asset Forfeiture Report by the 21st Judicial District Attorney.
  • Approving the Washington County Fairgrounds supplemental employee policy.
  • Approving a change fund for the fairgrounds in an amount as approved by the county auditor.
  • A final plat for Randle Hill Estate, a subdivision of five tracts fronting Randle Hill Road in Precinct Two.
  • Formal notice for a utility installation by PGMS-Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation, including a two-inch road bore for a one-inch water line, at 7780 Old Gay Hill Road in Precinct Three.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
