The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report around 3:30 p.m. of a plane landing on the highway, and responded to the scene with the Carmine Fire Department and two Washington County DPS Troopers.

Authorities were told that the pilot of the two seater plane discovered a fuel leak while in flight and safely landed the plane in the eastbound lanes of the highway between a break in traffic.  The plane was taxied off the highway to a parking lot.

Only minor damage occurred, as the left wing of the plane struck a mailbox.

The incident was investigated by Texas Highway Patrol.
