COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CANVAS VOTES FROM ELECTION

Washington Co. Clerk
Beth Rothermel

Washington County Commissioners approved the canvas of votes from the November 3rd election at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning.  County Clerk Beth Rothermel said an astounding 73% of registered voters in the county voted in this election.  That matched a record turnout from the 1992 election. She stated that, of that number, 14,601 voted early or by mail:

In other action, the commissioners approved an amendment to the GTL contract to provide tablets to the inmates at the county jail.  The tablets will allow the inmates to virtually visit with friends and relatives since they haven’t been able to since May of this year.  The tablets will also provide reading and entertainment options to the inmates, but will not have internet, so inmates will not have access to Facebook or Google.

The commissioners also approved:

  • The purchase of illuminated signs to be placed at the entrances to the new Engineering and Development Services Building on Highway 36 North.
  • The advertising for bids by the County Engineer for items needed for the Road and Bridge Department including bulk fuel to be used by the EMS, Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney, Constables, Court House Maintenance, and Fairgrounds.
  • Authorization to issue requests for proposals for administrative services and requests for qualifications for engineering services related to the Community Development Block Grant program administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
