FAITH MISSION, SALVATION ARMY TO DELIVER THANKSGIVING MEALS TO ELDERLY, HOMEBOUND

Thanksgiving for Faith Mission will look quite different this year, but the local non-profit still plans to support those in need this holiday season.

While the annual dine-in Thanksgiving dinner at the Cannery Kitchen has been cancelled, Faith Mission will still deliver over 300 hot meals of turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and dessert to those in Washington County who are elderly or homebound.

In addition, the elderly and disabled will receive telephone and FaceTime calls, and will be able to wave at the volunteers who deliver their contactless meals.

Heather Thielemann, who spearheads the Thanksgiving Day meal service, says “the spirit of service in our community thrives during hard times.”  Faith Mission Executive Director Reverend Randy Wells says “COVID-19 cannot stop us from serving people, especially when they need us the most.”

Volunteer shifts will be spread out, with six feet of distance between work stations in the Cannery Kitchen.  Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied for all volunteers and staff.

The Salvation Army has also joined in by helping serve as a sponsor for this year’s meal.
