BHS STUDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER TEMPORARY LOCKDOWN

SUPERINTENDENT SAYS STUDENT BECAME 'COMBATIVE'

A Brenham High School student has been taken into custody after a situation that resulted in the school temporarily being locked down this (Wednesday) morning.

According to Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin, police were called after a student turned combative after arriving at school and did not follow adult directives.

The student left the building, and the high school went into a temporary lockdown at approximately 7:30 a.m. out of an abundance of caution, according to a statement from Brenham ISD.

Scanner traffic indicated the student was running away with handcuffs near Higgins Branch on Blue Bell Road before being taken into custody.

Dr. Chaplin says no students were in danger.  He says after consulting with High School Principal Joe Chandler that there was no mention of a weapon being involved.  The high school is now out of lockdown, and classes are proceeding as normal.
