VEHICLE, FOOT PURSUIT IN BRENHAM LEADS TO ARREST OF SOMERVILLE MAN

A pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies in Brenham led to the arrest of a Somerville man late this (Tuesday) morning.

Gregory Allen Offing
(Washington Co. Jail)

At about 11:45 a.m., Washington County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a 2004 Honda Civic traveling eastbound in the 2900 block of Highway 290 West for an expired registration.

According to Sheriff Otto Hanak, the driver of the Civic continued driving, running through several red lights and stop signs.  During the pursuit, the vehicle became disabled due to a tire falling off.  The driver fled on foot and was eventually apprehended by DPS Troopers near a construction area in the 1100 block of Highway 290 East.

The driver, 24-year-old Gregory Allen Offing, Jr. of Somerville, was medically cleared at Baylor Scott and White Hospital before being taken to the Washington County Jail.  He was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Evading Arrest and Detention with a Vehicle, and two traffic violations.  No bond information is available at this time.

In addition to the Sheriff's Office and DPS, Brenham and Blinn police officers assisted in the pursuit.  Washington County EMS responded to the scene, as did the Brenham Fire Department to extinguish the car, as it had caught fire.
