COTTON GIN FESTIVAL SET FOR BURTON SATURDAY

The oldest operating cotton gin in the nation is home this weekend to the 32nd Annual Burton Cotton Gin Festival.

Thousands are expected to come to downtown Burton Saturday for a full day of festivities in celebration of the historic cotton gin, which was built in 1914 and operated until 1974.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. with the Main Street Parade and Children’s Bicycle Parade through downtown Burton.  Afterwards, visitors can tour the inside of the historic gin from noon to 3 p.m., and watch the actual ginning and baling of cotton at 3 p.m.

There will also be tours of the Wehring Shoe and Leather Shop, along with dozens of food and craft vendors, antique engine exhibits, farming and folk life demonstrations, engine and tractor shows, and even bubblegum blowing, pie eating and cotton seed pulling contests.  Meanwhile, Leather & Lace, Robert Zientek, and Sean Orr & Texas Gold will perform under the Roy Winkler Family Pavilion.

Admission to the festival is free.  Free parking will be available at the Burton High School parking lot.

To learn more about the festival, go online to www.texascottonginmuseum.org, or visit the Texas Cotton Gin Museum Facebook page.

KTEX-106’s Trail Boss Troy will be at the Cotton Gin Festival Saturday morning, broadcasting live on KWHI and KTEX-106.
