CAREY COUNSIL RUNNING FOR TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER

A longtime Brenham resident has announced his intent to run for Agriculture Commissioner of Texas.

Carey Counsil, a local business owner, real estate developer, Blinn College economics professor and United States Air Force veteran, declared his candidacy this week for the position.

Counsil, running as a Republican, feels now is the time to address the wage and profit gaps from producer to distributor to consumer.

A fifth-generation farmer and rancher, Counsil believes everyone is affected by decisions and oversight from the Texas Department of Agriculture.  He says he wants to be a liaison between Austin and property owners, and “the spokesperson for the common, everyday man.”

Counsil has named Mike Blissard of Big Spring, Texas as his treasurer.

Primary elections are expected to be held March 1, 2022, with statewide elections in November.
