NAVASOTA POLICE ISSUE WARRANT FOR SUSPECT IN FATAL SHOOTING AT APARTMENT COMPLEX

Update @ 10:32 a.m.: Navasota police have issued an arrest warrant for murder in connection to a fatal shooting Wednesday night at an apartment complex.

Police are searching for 37-year-old Leon Burrell, Jr. of Navasota, who is accused of shooting 45-year-old Clifton Love of Navasota shortly after 8:15 p.m. at the Laredo Heights Apartments on Laredo Street.

According to Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt, Burrell and Love had been arguing throughout the day and were continuing their argument in the apartment parking lot when Burrell produced a weapon and shot Love.  Love died from his injuries early this (Thursday) morning after being flown to a hospital in Bryan.

According to Myatt, a woman who was with Love was assaulted by Burrell before he fled the scene.  The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Around 8 a.m. this morning, police located the vehicle that Burrell fled the scene in.  The vehicle is in police custody, but Burrell is still at large.

Additional charges against Burrell may be filed at a later time.

Original Story @ 6:43 a.m.: Authorities are searching for a suspect in a Wednesday night shooting at a Navasota apartment complex.

Navasota police say Clifton Love of Navasota was shot shortly after 8:15 p.m. at the Laredo Heights Apartments on Laredo Street.

Love was flown to a Bryan hospital in unknown condition.  A woman who was assaulted in the incident was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have identified 37-year-old Leon Burrell, Jr. of Navasota as a person of interest in the case.  They say he was last seen in a beige-colored Buick sedan and may be in Navasota, College Station or Bryan.
