WASHINGTON ON THE BRAZOS HOSTS “GONE TO TEXAS” CAMP

30 members of the Washington County Boys and Girls Club wrapped up their Texas History Youth Camp with a thank-you lunch at Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site Friday.  The camp entitled “Gone to Texas” hosted the children age 9 through 11 and was paid for by the Washington County Historical Commission and their partners.

The camp hosted the students each morning this week and featured hands-on activities at the Museum, Barrington Farm, Independence Hall, and the Fanthorp Inn in Anderson.  It is designed to stimulate the child’s interest and knowledge of the history of the founding of the Republic of Texas and Washington County’s rich history and cultural influences.

Parents, sponsors, and county officials joined the students for the thank-you lunch on the final day of the camp.  This was the first year that Washington on the Brazos has hosted the youth camp, and it is hoped that it will become a regular event each summer.
