WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE LEASE AGREEMENT ON TOM GREEN CO. SCHOOL LAND

Washington County Commissioners agreed to lease a portion of the county’s school land in Tom Green County for an electric substation at their meeting today (Tuesday).

Washington County will lease 10 acres in Tom Green County at $29,500 per acre for the substation, as well as 11.8 acres at approximately $8,000 an acre for an access easement into the substation. The county will receive $389,500 in total through the agreements, $295,000 for the substation and $94,500 for the access easement.

County Judge John Durrenberger said the county has also been negotiating with Concho Valley Solar, who will have to pay the county an easement cost to get power lines to the substation.

Durrenberger said the money from the lease agreements will go to Brenham and Burton ISDs. The revenue generated from mineral rights and leases for hunting and agricultural use in Tom Green County is given annually by the court to the two school districts based on average daily attendance (ADA).

Also at today’s meeting, Washington Extension Education Association (WEEA) Chairperson Suzanne Kessler presented the county with a check amounting to $43,133. The check represents the donation of time WEEA members have spent educating local citizens and completing community service projects. The WEEA donated one scholarship this year totaling $1,000 to Clayton Boeker.

Commissioners also:

Approved the purchase of a 2021 Frazer Type 1 14’ module through the Houston-Galveston Area Council using $224,798 in American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Approved a resolution regarding Pecan Glen’s portion of the appraisal district budget. An agreement was approved last week by the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors to allow the road district to pay into the appraisal district budget after the collection season is over on February 1, 2022.
Approved a resolution adopting procurement policies and procedures that are 2 CFR 200 compliant. County Auditor Sharon Stolz said the resolution only pertains to American Rescue Plan Act expenditures.
Passed a resolution of the court casting votes for election of the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors. With 1,420 votes to cast, the court chose to divide the votes by four and cast them among the candidates, meaning each one would receive 355 votes. The candidates are Joe Antkowiak, Leslie Boehnemann Jr., Charles Gaskamp and John Schaer.
Appointed Damon Cunningham from the Washington County Office of Emergency Management and Brian Scheffer of the Brenham Fire Department to the Homeland Security Advisory Council.
Met in executive session to discuss the county’s agreement with REACH Air Medical Services. No action was taken.
