JOY FUCHS NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION AS WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONER; DUSTIN MAJEWSKI FILES

A longtime Washington County Commissioner is not running for re-election, and a local business owner and former baseball standout has filed to run for her position.
Joy Fuchs will not be seeking another term as Precinct 4 Commissioner after over 20 years in office, and Dustin Majewski has announced his candidacy for the post. Majewski will not be opposed in the Republican primary on March 1, 2022.
Fuchs, who first took office on January 1, 1999, said her decision to move on from county government is bittersweet, but she is proud and thankful to have been able to serve for as long as she has.
Fuchs played a part in planning the Washington County Fairgrounds Office Annex and Event Center, securing grant funding to refurbish the old Brenham police station into the Washington County Health and Service Center, working with the Texas A&M School of Health to provide an online mental health counselor and continuing with programs such as MAP, WIC and Indigent Health Care Screening. She continues to work with the Texas Historical Commission to secure a restoration grant for the historic Washington County Courthouse.
Fuchs believes Majewski has the best interests of the county at heart and that he will be a good fit for the commissioners court.
Majewski, a Washington County native, graduated from Brenham High School in 1999 and accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Blinn College. He then moved on to the University of Texas, where he was a member of the 2002 National Championship baseball team and graduated with a Bachelors in Kinesiology and a minor in History. He was drafted in 2003 by the Oakland Athletics and spent seven seasons playing in the minor leagues. In 2005, he and Clint Kuecker opened The Batters Box, Inc. in Brenham, an indoor training facility for baseball and softball.
Majewski said he feels that his experiences as an athlete and businessman have prepared him for public service.
Monday was the deadline for candidates to file for the March primary elections.
