A Brenham man charged with shooting and killing a College Station convenience store employee and seriously injuring a convenience store clerk in Bryan has been sentenced to life in prison.

32-year-old Rufus Edward Lockett pleaded guilty Friday to Capital Murder and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.  He was also given a life sentence for Aggravated Robbery.

Lockett admitted to fatally shooting Anita Randle at a convenience store in College Station on December 16, 2018.  Investigators said Randle was working at the cash register when Lockett demanded money at gunpoint.  After she complied, Lockett shot her in the chest.  She died a short time later at the hospital.

Lockett also confessed to shooting Binod Jethara after robbing a convenience store in Bryan on December 3, 2018.  Jethara survived the shooting, but suffered extensive damage to his heart.

The Bryan and College Station Police Departments both worked to identify Lockett as the suspect.  He was taken into custody on December 17, 2018.

Brazos County First Assistant District Attorney Brian Baker said for Lockett’s actions, “he will never again be permitted to walk free or leave the confines of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.”

  1. Seems like an appropriate punishment. Kudos to the DA’s office for taking a firm stance in this case. Now if we could only get more big city judges and DA’s to do the same…
