NEW START DATE FOR BRENHAM CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY; APPLICATIONS STILL OPEN
Applications remain available for the Brenham Police Department’s annual Citizens Police Academy, which has a new start date.
Originally planned to begin on February 10th, the first of 12 classes will now begin on March 24th. Classes will be held at the police department every Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., ending on or about June 9th with a graduation ceremony.
The educational program seeks to build a partnership between the department and the community while educating the public about the inner workings of law enforcement.
The class teaches participants about the policies and procedures of the department through tours, lectures, demonstrations and “hands-on” experiences. Class takers can also intermingle with police officers and ride with them during a normal patrol shift.
Officers from the department provide the instruction, with topics covering patrol procedures, criminal investigations, SWAT and hostage negotiation, building searches, traffic stops, and narcotics and DWI enforcement.
The program is free of charge to all Washington County residents who are 18 years old or older.
