BRENHAM CUBS LOSE ONE AND WIN ONE ON OPENING DAY OF THE BRENHAM-MONTGOMERY TOURNAMENT

MONTGOMERY LAKE CREEK  9  BRENHAM CUBS 8

With Cubs leading 3-1, Lake Creek exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Cubs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it 7-7.

After both teams failed to score in the fifth and sixth innings, Lake Creek scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-7 lead. Brenham only managed to get one of those runs back and ended up with a 9-8 defeat.

Jacob Mabie got the scoring started for the Cubs in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run.

In the top of the third, the Panthers scored a couple runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The Cubs responded in the bottom of the third with a ten run inning that saw 13 batters come to the plate. Ethan Jezierski led off the inning with a double. Cade Warmke was hit by a pitch and Hayden Hupe walked to load the bases. Mabie drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Jezierski to tie it 2-2. Cayden Shields singled home Warmke to put the Cubs in front 3-2. Rylan Wooten singled in Hupe to put Brenham ahead 4-2. Lane Sparks then drew a bases loaded walk to score pinch runner Colin Schaper and increase the lead to 5-2. Mason Lampe followed with a sac fly that brought home Shields to make it 6-2. Jezierski hit his second double of the inning, which brought home Wooten and Sparks for an 8-2 lead. Warmke came up for the second time in the inning and hit an RBI double to make it 9-2 Cubs. Hupe, then, put the exclamation point on the inning with a two run homer that won $100 worth of gasoline for Betty Goerlitz in the Buccaneer Home Run inning, and put the Cubs in front 11-2.

Aiden Klehm put the final run up in the bottom of the fifth. Klehm drew a walk, followed by Colin Schaper getting hit by a pitch, and Warmke walking to load the bases. Grant Rogas then reached on an infield hit that also scored Klehm to get the ten run mercy-rule victory, 12-2.

The Cubs are back in action today (Friday). They will face Episcopal at noon followed by Klein Cain at 7:30pm (7:05pm pregame on KWHI).

That second game (against Klein Cain) is also "Youth Night at the Ball Park" presented by the Brenham Booster Club. Kids wearing their Little League or other jerseys to the game can get in for free, and also go out on to the field to stand with the players during the National Anthem. After the game, the players will be signing autographs. Plus, they are serving $1 hot dogs at the concession stand.
