James Bevill will speak on Monday, March 28th from noon to 1 p.m. at the museum’s Bus Depot Gallery at 313 East Alamo Street.
Bevill is best known for his award-winning book, “The Paper Republic”, but his talk will cover his new book, “Blackboards and Bomb Shelters: The Perilous Journey of Americans in China During WWII”. The story follows three recent college graduates who went to war-torn China as neutral Americans in the summer of 1941 to teach the English language to middle school students, but their world is transformed upon the United States’ entry into the war.
Longtime Brenham resident and museum board member Seth McMeans is underwriting a total of six speakers this year for the bi-monthly lunchtime lecture series, which brings experts on history and culture topics to Brenham for live appearances.
Box lunches are offered via a partnership with Must Be Heaven, and must be reserved in advance by no later than noon on the Friday prior to the lecture. Anyone interested in ordering a box lunch for $10 can call 979-830-8445. Guests can also bring their own lunch.
The lecture series is free to all museum members and $5 for all others. To learn more about museum memberships or the museum’s capital campaign, visit www.brenhamheritagemuseum.org.
