WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD TO DISCUSS 2022-23 BUDGET
The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors will discuss the upcoming fiscal year budget at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
The board will review the proposed 2022-23 budget and set the date, time and place for a public hearing on the budget.
Currently, the proposed budget amounts to $1,216,200, an increase of $237,020 from the adopted budget for 2021-22.
Differences include an added $140,200 for debt service, $76,220 more for professional and contracted services, $13,500 in supply and material expenses, $5,400 in additional personnel costs and $1,700 more in other operating costs.
Also at tomorrow’s meeting, the board will hear a presentation from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson regarding a Homestead Exemption Analysis (HEA) project. The HEA is an audit of residential homesteads that would determine whether certain properties in the county qualify for homestead exemptions.
Through the use of national and international databases, the firm would see if residents are living somewhere other than their claimed homestead, or if deceased residents are still receiving a homestead. Action on the HEA project was tabled at the board’s meeting in May.
Other action will include appointing a board vice chairman and potential approval of a 2020-21 budget amendment to reallocate $87,960 in unused 2020-21 funds.
The board will meet tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the appraisal district office in Brenham at 1301 Niebuhr Street.
