BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDS WITH CONTRACT WITH BOND REPRESENTATIVE

The Brenham School Board moved forward on Monday with a contract with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnan (LAN), Inc. to serve as Brenham ISD’s representative for the district’s proposed $153.9 million bond measure.

The contract with LAN is for construction manager-agent/program manager and facility consulting services.  Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said the firm will assist with the procurement of architect and engineering firms, and becomes the “owner-agent” through the full bond process while answering to the school board and superintendent.

Dr. Chaplin said the agreement with LAN is contingent on if the bond passes.  If it fails, the district only pays the advertising cost for the request for qualifications.

The bond features plans for a new junior high school accommodating grades 6-8 and the repurposing of Brenham Middle School for grades Pre-K-5.  All other elementary schools would also serve Pre-K through 5th grades.

The high school would also see upgrades such as an expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) building and CTE renovations, improvements to the field house locker rooms and cafeteria and a band marching pad.  In addition, the proposal would fund enhancements for districtwide accessibility, security and fiber internet.

Also on Monday, the board approved a joint election agreement and election services agreement for joint polling locations with the county during the May 7th election.

Early voting for the bond election runs April 25-29 and May 2-3 at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.

The board also received a presentation about a possible switch from a six-week grading period to a nine-week grading period.  No action was taken.
