NEW CANEY 5  BRENHAM 4

It was really a tale of two games last (Thursday) night in Game One of the Brenham Cubette Softball Team's bi-district series against New Caney.

In the first inning, Brenham loaded the bases with nobody out.  However, a strikeout and two force plays later, and New Caney escaped without giving up any runs.

The Cubettes would score in the second inning.  Sarah Mabie led it off with a single, and then stole second.  She then scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Avery Maurer to give Brenham a 1-0 lead.

The scored remain that way until the top of the fourth inning, when the Cubettes tacked on two more runs.  Annie Beckendorf led off the inning with a single. Mabie bunted her over to second. Kaylie Rodriguez reached on an error. Avery Maurer then hit a two run single to make it 3-0 Brenham.

New Caney then took advantage of six Cubette errors to score two runs in the fourth, and three runs in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead going into the seventh inning.

Brenham managed one more run as Kaylyn Rodriguez hit an RBI double that scored pinch runner Liliana Gonzales to cut the lead to 5-4 , but that would be as close as they would get.
