JUDGE EDDIE HARRISON TO BE HONORED AT JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
The life and legacy of a community leader will be celebrated at the Juneteenth Celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos.
The 1st Annual Judge Eddie E. Harrison Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 25th, at 10am. It will feature presentations by his family, and the Mt. Rose Male Chorus.
Harrison passed away on November 6, 2020. He was a retired Colonel with 34 years of service in the United States Army. Afterwards, Harrison spent 16 years serving as a City of Brenham Municipal Court Judge.
Harrison was also a former Washington County Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, a member of the Brenham Activist Association, a chairman of the Washington County Community Development Credit Union, a board member for the Texas Center for African American Living History, and a member of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in Houston.
He was also a key member in creating the Juneteenth Celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos back in 2017. In addition to the memorial service, there is going to be an exhibit commemorating Harrison at the event.
The memorial will be followed by a genealogical workshop from the Willie Lee Gay H-Town Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society at 11:30am. The workshop features presentations by Brandi Waller-Pace with Decolonizing the Music Room and Myeshia Babers of Texas A&M University.
The Juneteenth Celebration also includes food and craft vendors, noted African American authors, a temporary gallery from the Johnnie Swearingen Collection, and informational booths from many organizations, museums, and businesses across the Brazos Valley.
The day concludes with performances by Fantasy Band and Brown Sugar Band at 1pm.
