TEXAS CENTRAL CEO CARLOS AGUILAR STEPS DOWN

The president and CEO of high-speed rail developer, Texas Central, has announced he is leaving the company.

Carlos Aguilar said in a LinkedIn post Saturday that he is departing Texas Central after joining in December 2016.  In his statement, he said he is “immensely proud” of the company’s work, and while he could not “align our current stakeholders on a common vision for a path forward”, he remains “convinced of the importance of this venture.”

Texas Central planned to begin construction in 2021, but the Supreme Court of Texas is reviewing whether the company is legally recognized as a railroad company under state law and can use eminent domain authority.  The rail between Houston and Dallas would travel through the Brazos Valley.

In late March, court documents filed in the case James Frederick Miles v. Texas Central Railroad & Infrastructure, Inc. and Integrated Texas Logistics, Inc. revealed that the company owes over $622,000 in property taxes to 10 counties, including Grimes and Waller counties.

Waller County Judge Trey Duhon, who is also the president of Texans Against High-Speed Rail, calls the rail project “ill-conceived from Day 1” and said with this announcement that it appears “a victory for private property rights is imminent.”

Aguilar did not elaborate on the reason for his decision, but said he would be “announcing next steps soon.”

  1. Why do we put in so much effort to slow down progress in the state of Texas. It is so obvious that this is a political attack on progress away from common use of fossil fuels and the way things have always been. Let’s move all the way y’all
