BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER ROAD RESURFACING BIDS

The Brenham City Council will potentially accept a bid for a road resurfacing project in Brenham at its meeting today (Thursday).

The council will review a bid from Clark Construction of Texas for Onyx Resurfacing on six street sections.  They include Spinn Street, Tison Street, LJ Street, Hillside Drive, Clearspring Drive and Robinhood Road.

The project will consist of Clark Construction performing spot repairs on sections that are not structurally sound, along with the city’s street department leveling up low areas or utility cuts.  The roadways will be sealed off with two coats of aggregate material applied with oil.

The city says this is the medium level of protection after crack sealing that was recommended in the street inventory that was conducted in 2020.

The total for the bid is $305,809, but a change order will bring down the cost to $230,263 after reducing the number of street sections addressed from eight to six.  The two streets that are being postponed are Pecan Street and Atlow Drive.

Also at today’s meeting, the council will consider an ordinance to regulate the speed of traffic on Aviation Way, a private road within the Brenham Municipal Airport.  City staff recently received a complaint about the high rate of speed that traffic is driving on the road.

The ordinance would set a 30-mph speed limit on Aviation Way, authorize the placement of speed limit signs, and establish a penalty for violators.

In other items, the council will:

  • Consider a Chapter 380 agreement between the city and Brenham Market Square, LP. The terms of the Chapter 380 agreement are the same as those laid out in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) approved by the council on March 17th, with the exception that the first year of the agreement be 2024 rather than 2023.  The developers have requested the date change due to post-pandemic supply chain issues that have impacted the development.
  • Meet in executive session to discuss the possible sale, exchange, transfer and/or acquisition of real property located in the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #1. The council will reopen regular session to take action on the item.

The council will meet at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
