WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS SHOUT OUT ORGANIZERS, SUPPORTERS FOR ‘STARS OVER WASHINGTON COUNTY’; NEXT COMMISSIONERS MEETING ON MONDAY
Days shy of a countywide celebration of America250, Washington County Commissioners gave recognition to those who are making the event possible.
At the beginning of today’s (Tuesday) commissioners meeting, the court thanked Commissioner Misti Hartstack Corn, Chief of Staff Carrie Marmol and Expo Director Harrison Williams for leading the charge in organizing the free Stars Over Washington County event coming up on Saturday at the Washington County Expo. The court also thanked the Cities of Brenham and Burton for their collaboration; Independence Community Events, H-E-B and the Brenham Country Club for shifting resources and funding from separate Fourth of July events to the county’s gathering; and Woodmen of the World for donating flags.
Hartstack Corn said the county is excited to be able to go all out for this once-in-a-lifetime Fourth of July celebration.
Corn also gave some additional information and reminders for the festivities, which get underway at 6 p.m. with a touch-a-truck experience for the kids featuring dozens of vehicles. The touch-a-truck will have a sensory hour from 6 to 7 p.m., with no lights or sirens. Music by Escape – A Tribute to Journey will kick off at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 9:20 p.m.
Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged, but no outside food or drinks are allowed. Food trucks will be on site.
ADA parking will be available near the side entrance to the Expo. Public parking will be open on Old Independence Road, the parking lot at Linda Anderson Park, the overflow lot at the corner of Old Independence Road and Blue Bell Road, and the open lot between Old Independence Road and Highway 105. The Brenham High School parking lot is for fireworks viewing only.

Also at today’s meeting, commissioners approved a statement of work with CivicPlus to add a standard department header for the Engineering and Development Services (EDS) department on the county website. The court approved identical statements of work for the sheriff’s office and EMS department at its meeting on May 26th.
Information Technology Director T.J. Harris said the service provides for consistent site branding with the county’s presence online while allowing EDS control in the way the website is structured, given the variety of services the department oversees.
The cost for the service for the EDS website will be for a prorated first-year amount of $3,461, with annual recurring services in the amount of $813.
In other business, the court:
- Approved an order of public interest and plat revision for the Gates Crossing subdivision in Precinct 1.
- Discussed formal notices from Industry Communications for new service line installation in the county right-of-way of Muske Ullrich Road in Precinct 4. No action was needed.
The commissioners court’s next regular meeting is being moved up from Tuesday to Monday, taking place at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
Marmol said the change was to accommodate the schedule of Garry Kimball with Specialized Public Finance, who will give a presentation about the county’s financing options for the proposed judicial center and covered rodeo arena projects. The change in venue will allow larger space for anyone interested in attending.
